We are Fiammaily

We are Fiammaily

Who are Fiamma?

I have appreciated using Fiamma products for 25 years and knew little more than they were reliable with red logo stickers.
To my surprise Fiamma are third generation Italian family company, with 95% production in Europe and mostly Italy.
Fiamma started with gas stoves hence their name flame

Fiamma burst into flames after World War 2 by manufacturing gas stoves then heaters. Fiamma is Italian for flame.

Fiamma toilet rolls

Fiammas' product range evolved with the generations. Sons and grandsons have all been manufacturing awnings, bike racks, caravan door locks, portable toilets and they have their own toilet paper brand.

Like us, you probably own or have owned something from Fiamma. Both of our German imported Hymers had Fiamma awnings, bike racks, and grab-handle locks. We have a pair of yellow Fiamma levelling ramps that came with a second-hand caravan we bought when Meli was 22.

Fiamma levelling ramps and bidet

Over the years we have added Fiamma locks to new motorhomes, but our most valuable Fiamma product is our bidet. We don't have a shower in The Bling Thing

We have been on several factory tours with the Caravan Writers Guild. The Fiamma factory near Milan was as clean and tidy as they come, despite major expansion and remodelling being undertaken. Overall there was a feeling of calm and measured concentration from the staff who integrated well with the technology. Charles, the boss led the tour. He knew where all the departments were, who worked there, and he explained how all the automation worked.

Fiamma carry bike label

Fiamma quality control and development team showed us several state of the art machines explaining their quality control testing processes. Regular mechanical tests are carried out, such as water pump longevity tests. Components are exposed to salt or UV to replicate potential sun damage to both fabrics and plastics. Other machines assessed the composition of plastic and aluminium parts. 3D metal printing is used in the design process of some parts.

Fiamma spare parts department showed us their automated stock picker in action. They explained that spare parts are available for a minimum of 10 years after last manufacture date of products.

In summary Fiamma is an Italian family business with an eye for quality and a heavy boot pushing down its carbon footprint.

Full disclosure

Our press trip was organised by Fiamma, through The Caravan Writers Guild, of which we are long term are members. Fiamma paid for our Eurotunnel crossing, our hotel and parking. They also provided transport for two days and treated us to 3 restaurant meals. Out travel insurance is with Aviva and is a benefit for Caravan Writers Guild members.
